2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup brewed strong coffee, cooled
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup whole milk
For the Mocha Frosting:
16 oz (2 packages) cream cheese or buttercream frosting, softened
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons brewed coffee, cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2–3 tablespoons milk to adjust consistency
Optional: chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Step 1: Bake Cake
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk and brewed coffee until smooth.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
Step 2: Frost Cake
In a medium bowl, combine frosting, cocoa, coffee, and vanilla. Adjust consistency with milk if needed.
Apply a thin crumb coat to the cooled cake and chill 15–20 minutes.
Frost the cake fully and smooth the surface.
Step 3: Decorate
Optionally sprinkle chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or drizzle chocolate ganache over the top.
For a more creative look, pipe frosting into swirls or rosettes.
