3 large eggs

2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
1 box (15 oz) yellow or spice cake mix
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Preheat Oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Make Pumpkin Base: In a large bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt until smooth.
Layer Apples: Spread apple slices evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish. Pour pumpkin mixture over the apples.
Add Cake Mix: Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over the pumpkin and apple layer — do not stir.
Add Butter & Nuts: Drizzle melted butter evenly on top and sprinkle chopped nuts if using.
Bake: Bake uncovered for 50–55 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the center is set.
Cool & Serve: Let cool 20–30 minutes before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
