For the Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt

  • 1 cup peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Swirl:

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Glaze (optional):

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • 12 tablespoons milk or cream

  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

📝 Instructions:

Step 1: Prep Oven & Pan
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

Step 2: Make Cinnamon Sugar Swirl
In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon; set aside.

Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Step 4: Mix Wet Ingredients
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and sour cream.

Step 5: Combine & Add Apples
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until just combined. Fold in diced apples.

Step 6: Layer Cinnamon Sugar
Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top. Add remaining batter, then top with remaining cinnamon sugar. Use a knife to gently swirl.

Step 7: Bake
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Step 8: Optional Glaze
Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bread before slicing.

Notes

  • Apple Tip: Use firm apples to avoid mushy bread.
