Description
Crispy, cinnamon-sugar coated taquitos filled with spiced apple pie filling. A Mexican-American fusion dessert perfect for picnics and family gatherings.
Ingredients
6–12 small flour tortillas
20–21 oz canned apple filling or 3–4 apples, chopped
1/4–1/2 cup granulated sugar
1–2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter or 2 cups oil (for baking)
Lemon juice (optional, for fresh apples)
Vegan butter or corn oil (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet with parchment paper
Microwave tortillas in stacks of 3 for 20 seconds to soften
For fresh apples: Toss with lemon juice and cook with cinnamon and cornstarch until thickened
Spoon 2-3 tbsp apple filling onto the bottom third of each tortilla
Roll tightly into a taquito shape, pinching the seam to secure
Place seam-side down on the baking sheet
Brush with melted butter or oil, then roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated
Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy
Notes
For gluten-free option: Use certified gluten-free tortillas
Vegan alternative: Use vegan butter and plant-based cinnamon sugar
Adjust sugar quantity to personal preference
Caramel drizzle makes a great optional garnish for adults
