Description

A thin, crispy twist on classic brownies, brownie brittle delivers deep chocolate flavor in a light, crunchy texture. Perfect as a snack, dessert topping, or party treat, it’s easy to make at home and can be customized with flavors like salted caramel or M&M’s.

Ingredients

Scale

🛒 Ingredients (for one large baking sheet):

For the Brownie Brittle:

1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 large egg whites
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-Ins:

½ cup mini chocolate chips or M&M’s
2 tablespoons caramel bits (for salted caramel version)
Pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions

📝 Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat Oven

Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2: Make Batter

In a bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
Add egg whites, oil (or butter), and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and glossy.

Step 3: Spread Thin

Pour batter onto the prepared baking sheet.
Using a spatula, spread it as thin as possible into an even layer (this is key for crispiness).
Sprinkle chocolate chips, M&M’s, or caramel bits if using.

Step 4: Bake

Bake for 18–22 minutes until the edges are crisp and the center is set.
Remove from oven and let cool completely on the pan.

Step 5: Break into Pieces

Once fully cooled, break into irregular brittle pieces.
Sprinkle flaky sea salt if making salted caramel version.

Notes

  • Thin Layer: The thinner you spread the batter, the crispier the brittle will be.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Easy Version: Use boxed brownie mix and spread very thin for a shortcut.
  • Serving Idea: Crush and use as a topping for ice cream or yogurt.
