Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine melted butter and water. Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla, mixing well.
Gradually stir wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until smooth and fully combined.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until fluffy.
Mix in vanilla extract.
Once the cake is completely cool, spread frosting evenly over the top.
Slice and serve.
