Ingredients

Scale

🛒 Ingredients (for one 9-inch round cake or 8×8-inch square cake):

For the Cake:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup whole milk

For the Frosting & Ghosts:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 4 cups powdered sugar

  • ¼ cup milk (adjust for desired consistency)

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • Black decorating gel or mini chocolate chips (for eyes)

Optional Decorations:

  • Halloween sprinkles, candy eyes, or edible glitter

Instructions

📝 Instructions:

Step 1: Bake the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or 8×8-inch pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.

  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake 35–40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

  8. Cool completely before frosting.

Step 2: Make Frosting

  1. Beat butter until creamy.

  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and spreadable.

Step 3: Frost Cake

  1. Apply a thin crumb coat and chill for 15–20 minutes.

  2. Frost the cake fully with a smooth layer of vanilla frosting.

Step 4: Decorate Ghosts

  1. Use additional frosting to pipe ghost shapes on the cake. Swirl upwards to create “floating” ghosts.

  2. Add black decorating gel or mini chocolate chips for eyes.

  3. Optionally, add Halloween sprinkles or candy details.

Notes

  • Creative Twist: Use whipped cream for a lighter, fluffy ghost effect.
  • Mini Version: Make cupcakes instead of a full cake, piping one ghost per cupcake.
  • Make Ahead: Cake can be baked a day in advance; frost and decorate the day of serving.
