Ingredients

Scale

🛒 Ingredients (9-inch two-layer cake):

For the Cake (choose one):

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 ½ cups vegetable oil

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Option 2: Chocolate

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Frosting:

  • 16 oz (2 packages) cream cheese or buttercream frosting, softened

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (if making cream cheese frosting)

  • 23 tablespoons milk to adjust consistency

For the Vampire Blood Drip:

  • ½ cup raspberry or strawberry jam/puree

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, to thicken)

  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

📝 Instructions:

Step 1: Bake Cake Layers

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round pans.

  2. Prepare the chosen cake batter following standard instructions (mix wet and dry ingredients, pour into pans).

  3. Bake 30–35 minutes (red velvet) or 35–40 minutes (chocolate). Test with a toothpick for doneness.

  4. Cool completely on wire racks.

Step 2: Make Frosting

  1. Beat cream cheese (or butter) until smooth.

  2. Gradually mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until spreadable.

Step 3: Assemble Cake

  1. Spread frosting on the first cake layer. Place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake smoothly.

Step 4: Prepare Vampire Blood Drip

  1. Heat berry jam/puree gently with water and cornstarch (if using) until slightly thickened.

  2. Let cool to room temperature.

  3. Drizzle along the edges of the cake so it drips down like “blood.”

Step 5: Decorate

  • Optional: Add candy fangs, edible bats, or Halloween-themed decorations.

  • For a more dramatic effect, lightly dust with cocoa powder around the base to create a dark, ominous look.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Cake can be baked a day in advance; add the blood drip just before serving.
  • Flavor Twist: Mix a teaspoon of raspberry liqueur into the frosting for an adult version.
  • Mini Version: Use cupcakes or mini cakes for individual vampire treats.
