Ingredients
🛒 Ingredients (for 2 sandwiches):
For the Sandwich:
2 tablespoons butter, softened
4 slices of bread (sourdough, whole grain, or your choice)
4 oz cheese (Gruyère, cheddar, or brie), sliced
1 small pear, thinly sliced
1 small apple, thinly sliced
Optional: 1 teaspoon honey or fig jam
Optional: 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Instructions
📝 Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare Ingredients
Wash and thinly slice the pear and apple. Slice the cheese if not pre-sliced.
Step 2: Assemble Sandwich
Spread butter on one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, layer cheese, pear slices, and apple slices. Add honey or mustard if desired. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
Step 3: Cook Sandwich
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the pan and cook 3–4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Press lightly with a spatula for even toasting.
Step 4: Serve
Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately. Optional: drizzle lightly with balsamic reduction or serve with a side salad.
Notes
- Cheese Tip: Gruyère gives a nutty flavor, while brie adds creaminess. Cheddar gives a classic sharp taste.
- Fruit Tip: Choose ripe but firm pears and apples to avoid sogginess.
- Make Ahead: Slice the fruit in advance and store in a lemon-water solution to prevent browning.
- Variations: Add a few arugula leaves or caramelized onions for extra flavor.
