Ingredients
1 cup whole milk (warmed to 100°F)
2/3 cup granulated sugar (divided)
1.5 Tbsp instant yeast
1/2 cup + 6 Tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
2 large eggs (room temperature)
0.5 tsp fine sea salt
4.5 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
0.5 cup brown sugar
1.5 Tbsp ground cinnamon
2 medium apples (peeled and finely chopped)
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
0.5 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 Tbsp salted caramel (warmed for garnish)
Instructions
Whisk warm milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, and yeast in a mixer bowl until dissolved and foamy.
Add the eggs, 1/2 cup softened butter, remaining sugar, salt, and flour to the milk mixture.
Knead the dough with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic, then allow to rise in a greased bowl for 1 hour.
Roll the dough out into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
Spread the remaining 6 tablespoons of butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped apples.
Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 even pieces.
Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let them rise for a second time for another hour.
Preheat oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Whisk confectioners’ sugar and vanilla to make a glaze, drizzle over warm rolls, and finish with salted caramel.
Notes
Ensure the milk is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast. You can prepare the dough ahead of time and keep it in the refrigerator overnight before the second rise. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheat in the microwave for a fresh-baked texture.
