Ingredients
2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
1/2 cup salted butter, melted or sliced into small squares
1 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
In a bowl, stir half a teaspoon of almond extract into each can of cherry pie filling.
Pour the seasoned cherry mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the layer of cherry filling.
Pour the melted butter over the cake mix or dot the surface with thin butter squares.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Notes
Ensure cherries are pitted before adding to the dish. Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
