Description
A fusion breakfast dish combining custard-rich French toast made with challah, filled with a cinnamon-sugar-spiced cream cheese mixture, and topped with a sweet cinnamon sugar glaze for a sweet and indulgent twist.
Ingredients
2 large eggs
¼ cup whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1–2 tbsp canola oil
Non-stick cooking spray
8–10 slices challah bread
5 oz plain cream cheese
¼ cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp whole milk
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
Whisk eggs, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
Place a ¼-inch layer of butter and oil in a skillet; heat until melted.
Dip bread slices into the egg mixture until saturated but not soggy.
Spread ½ tbsp cream cheese filling (mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk) onto half of each bread slice.
Fold the bread over like a sandwich and cook in the skillet over medium heat until golden and crispy on both sides (3-4 minutes per side).
Combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Roll cooked toast in the sugar mixture until evenly coated.
Repeat with remaining bread, adjusting oil/butter as needed.
Notes
Use full-fat cream cheese for best richness.
Adjust powdered sugar quantity to taste.
Challah is ideal for structure, but brioche or thick white bread can substitute.
Spray pan between batches for non-greasy results.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
