Description

A soft and flavorful cinnamon raisin bread perfect for mornings, toast, or sandwiches. Combines warm spices and plump raisins in a loaf that’s easy to make and sure to become a household favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

1 ½ cups milk
1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1 cup raisins
3 large eggs
1 ¼ cups white sugar
½ cup margarine (softened, non-hydrogenated)
1 teaspoon salt
8 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons milk (for brushing, optional heavy cream for richer crust)
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

In a large bowl, mix warm water with active dry yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Add milk, eggs, sugar, salt, and softened margarine to the bowl. Whisk until well combined.
Stir in raisins and mix until evenly distributed.
Gradually incorporate flour, a handful at a time, until a soft dough forms.
Once the dough is formed, knead for 5 minutes to bring it together.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
Roll the dough into a long log, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture, and form into a loaf.
Place the dough into greased loaf pans and let rest for 15–20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 45 minutes, or until the bread is golden and sounds hollow when tapped.
Remove from pans and let cool slightly. Brush with the remaining milk or cream for a glossy crust.

Notes

For vegan version, use plant-based milk and margarine.
If using gluten-free flour blend, ensure it contains xanthan gum.
For a deeper flavor, replace white sugar with brown sugar.
Soaking raisins for 10–15 minutes in warm water ensures plumpness.
Loaf may also be baked in mini loaf pans for smaller portions.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
