Description
A gourmet twist on sloppy joes with slow-caramelized onions, lean ground beef, and melted Gruyère cheese. Quick, hearty, and perfect for weeknight meals.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 pound ground beef, lean
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (non-alcoholic)
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon tomato paste
½ cup beef broth
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
4–6 hamburger buns, split and toasted
1½ cups shredded Gruyère cheese
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional, for buns)
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat
Add onions and a pinch of salt
Caramelize for 15–20 minutes until golden
Push onions to the sides and cook beef until browned
Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper
Mix in Worcestershire, mustard, and tomato paste
Pour in beef broth
Simmer 10–15 minutes until thickened
Stir in shredded cheese until melted
Serve in toasted buns, optional with buttered buns
Notes
Substitute beef broth with water if needed
Use macaroni or panko buns for frying
Mascarpone can replace Gruyère
Optional butter: melt over buns for richer flavor
