Homemade Honey Bread

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf 1x

Description

A delightful baked good featuring the natural sweetness of honey, perfect as a breakfast staple or a comforting snack. This recipe offers a simple approach to creating a perfectly golden loaf with a tender, fragrant crumb.

Ingredients

Scale

3 cups (approx. 360g) all-purpose flour
1 cup (240ml) warm water, 105-115°F (40-46°C)
2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (one packet)
¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
½ cup (170g) honey, local preferred
¼ cup (60ml) warm milk
4 tablespoons (56g) unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Combine the active dry yeast and a pinch of granulated sugar in a bowl. Pour in the warm water and let it sit for five minutes until it becomes foamy.
In a large mixing vessel, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center of this mixture.
Add the activated yeast mixture, honey, warm milk, and melted butter to the well. Stir until a shaggy mixture forms.
Turn the mixture onto a lightly dusted surface. Knead it for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded mixture in a greased bowl. Cover it and allow it to double in size for 1-1.5 hours in a warm, draft-free place.
Gently punch down the puffed mixture. Shape it into a rectangle, then roll it tightly into a cylindrical form.
Transfer the shaped cylinder to a greased loaf pan. Cover it once more and let it expand for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pan in the preheated oven.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and an internal temperature of 200°F (93°C) is reached.
Remove the baked bread from the pan immediately and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
