Description

Experience the quintessence of Canadian baking with these decadent maple tarts. Featuring a rich, bubbling maple filling encased in a crisp pastry shell, these handheld delights are the perfect balance of deep molasses notes and delicate sweetness. The inclusion of white vinegar creates a smooth, set texture that elevates this simple, one-bowl dessert into a professional-quality treat that is ideal for holidays, family gatherings, or a quick sweet fix.

Ingredients

Scale

20 3-inch frozen unbaked tart shells
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp white vinegar
1/2 cup dark amber maple syrup
6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 450˚F.
Arrange the 20 frozen tart shells on a large baking sheet and keep them frozen until ready to fill.
In a 4-cup measuring cup, beat the eggs until the whites and yolks are fully incorporated.
Whisk in the brown sugar, salt, and white vinegar until the mixture is smooth.
Stir in the melted butter and maple syrup until the filling is uniform.
Pour the filling into the frozen shells, filling each about three-quarters full.
Bake for approximately 14 minutes, or until the filling is set and the pastry is golden brown.
Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Use dark amber grade A maple syrup for the most robust flavor profile. Ensure the tart shells remain frozen until the moment of filling to maintain pastry crispness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
