Perfect for busy mornings, this family-friendly recipe relies on a balanced leavening ratio to ensure a perfect rise every time. Simply bake, cool slightly, and toss in a flurry of powdered sugar for the ultimate breakfast treat.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp fine sea salt
148ml whole milk
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
89ml vegetable oil
1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350ºF.
Spray your donut pan thoroughly with non-stick cooking spray and use a paper towel to distribute it evenly into all wells.
Combine flour, nutmeg, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
Whisk milk, eggs, vanilla, and vegetable oil in a separate large mixing bowl until fully incorporated.
Add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients and fold with a spatula just until the flour disappears.
Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan wells until each is about 3/4 full.
Bake for 11 minutes or until the donuts spring back when touched.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before removing from the pan.
Once slightly cooled, toss each donut in the powdered sugar until evenly coated.
Notes
Ensure your baking powder is fresh to guarantee the donuts rise properly. Using room temperature eggs and milk helps create a smooth batter emulsion. You can add a pinch of cinnamon to the powdered sugar coating for an extra layer of flavor. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
