Description
Indulge in these soft, cake-like baked donuts that bring a comforting, sweet start to your morning. Perfectly golden and coated in a delicate layer of fine confectioners sugar, this recipe offers a convenient alternative to deep-frying. Using a standard donut pan, these treats are light, moist, and require no yeast, making them an ideal quick breakfast for busy families seeking homemade quality without the mess.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp fine sea salt
1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp whole milk
2 large eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350ºF.
Spray a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray and wipe with a paper towel.
Combine flour, nutmeg, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and oil.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
Pipe or spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan cavities.
Bake for 11 minutes or until the donuts spring back when touched.
Allow to cool slightly before removing from the pan.
Once cooled enough to handle, toss the warm donuts in a bowl of sifted powdered sugar until evenly coated.
Notes
Ensure all wet ingredients are at room temperature to help with smooth emulsification. For a smoother batter, you can substitute granulated sugar with superfine sugar. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
