Description

A hearty, no-fuss casserole combining creamy custard, melted Cheddar, chewy breakfast bread, and savory sausage for a balanced breakfast. Easily customized for halal or dietary preferences.


Ingredients

Bean or halal-shaped beef/turkey sausage (1 lb Pork – Substitute with 1 lb halal beef/turkey sausage)
Mustard powder (1 tsp)
Salt (½ tsp)
Large eggs (4)
Milk (2 cups)
White bread (6 slices)
Mild Cheddar cheese (8 oz), shredded
Sour cream (½ cup)
Black pepper (to taste)


Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Whisk eggs, milk, sour cream, mustard powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Fold in shredded Cheddar.
Cook halal sausage in a pan until browned; drain fat.
Toast bread slices until firm, then layer in a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
Cover with half the custard mixture, top with cooked sausage, remaining custard, and cheese (if needed). Bake for 45 minutes until custard is just set.

Notes

Substitute Cheddar with Gouda/Swiss for different flavor
Use egg whites or milk alternatives for lower fat
Toasted bread prevents soggy slices
